With more people speaking the official Irish language now than at any other time in the last 150 years, there is an increasing push to help introduce Irish to a much younger audience and one of the best ways is undoubtedly through the use of Irish language toys. By bringing in the fun factor it will inevitably make the learning process much more interesting to a young child and as a consequence, retain their attention and help pick up the key words and phrases much quicker.

There are many educational tools on the market place that can stimulate the minds of impressionable youngsters and allow them to pick up the language, whilst having real enjoyment at the same time. Irish language toys of all shapes and sizes are being developed, all very cleverly created to capture the imagination of a child showing an interest in the Irish language.

The soft toys are always going to be a favorite, but posters, books, flashcards, and stickers all help in the learning of the language in an amusing way, which really is the key to maintaining involvement of an age group whose attention span is limited. One of the most popular forms of teaching the Irish language via toys is with the educational jigsaw puzzles. There are some wonderful examples of these products that have a proven track record as genuinely bringing on a child’s grasp of the language.

Made from quarter inch thick wood, these puzzles are bright, pictorial creations, that are available with either 12, 20 or 30 pieces, aimed at varying age groups and are attractively packaged in a vinyl zip bag, with a soft cloth handle, to catch the eye of the would be pupil. They each have a specific subject matter to concentrate on including topics such as: the farm, colours, numbers, the classroom, clothes or sea life.

Before you know it the youngster is able to count to ten in Irish, simply because they have managed to complete the puzzle several times over and numbers such as: a haon, a dȯ, a tri (one, two, three) and a hocht, a naoi, a deich (eight, nine, ten) become second nature to them. Similarly, a connection is made with the farm themed puzzle which has many common phrases and words associated with the animals that most kids have an affection for at an early age, such as: capall (horse), muc (pig), madra (dog) and sicín (chicken).

It is a wonderful advantage to be able to converse in a second language and the effect and benefits delivered by these almost magical jigsaws should never be underestimated. Some children lack confidence and might initially feel that the Irish language is too tough for them to pick up, but by introducing the added enjoyment of piecing together these puzzles, they gradually begin to find that the words start to flow. The more complicated parts of the language will come in time, such as accents on vowels to change the sound of a pronunciation, but for those starting from scratch, the Irish language toys are a tried, tested and now established form of entertaining education.

Have you ever found difficulties in finding toys for your children? Do you know the important aspects of appropriate toys for them? What you will see below are some helpful advice to help you find the best for your little ones.

Children learn through toys and play about colors, shapes, sounds, and numbers. It helps them develop their eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, helping them later on to compare their experience and use their imagination to talk.

It is difficult to judge a toy for its effectiveness in teaching children and some toys that look helpful in their boxes lose their potential when they are taken out.

Nevertheless, learning how to recognize the play value of a toy is a skill that can be acquired over time. One thing to understand is that the child should be given a toy geared towards his or her age group, as it is not sensible to think that advanced toys would help the child’s learning to grow faster.

– Toys should not promote a single thought or concept; instead, they should promote creativity and thinking skills. Toys based on a single concept, such as a math toy normally is not played with and it is better to roll the dice and let the child add the numbers towards a certain goal as it is fun as well as educational.

– Toys should cater to individual developmental skills such as miniature replicas of household products for toddlers to gain an understanding of how things function.

– Toys that can be played in a number of ways serve as great educational tools. For example, blocks will never disappear simply because they provide the toddler understandings of gravity by helping them build and knock down towers, while enhancing creativity in older children who build castles out of them to create their own worlds.

– Toys should be checked for durability and safety before being bought. Durability is extremely important so that the toy is played with and remains helpful in developmental skills.

– Children tend to clamor for the latest toys that might not serve any educational purpose, like trend figures that can be played only in their specific roles and cannot be expanded towards thinking that is more creative. Instead of breaking your child’s heart by not buying them their favorite action figure, it is better to buy them a jigsaw of the figure or playing cards, games, and books too.

– A toy is good if it is fun for the child to play with. Buying toys that can be played in a number of ways would be a wise decision to invest in as they would be played with for a long period of time and would give the maximum learning experience to the child.

The basic principles of toy selection include the following:

– Suitable Design: For the correct age group with the best concept, colors, and materials, with concise and crystal clear instructions.

– Quality: The quality of workmanship and relation of materials used with colors and shapes define it.

– Durability: It is of the utmost importance as children can break even the best of the toys.

– Safety: Protection is vital for the children from toys with splintered edges, flammability, and the use of toxic materials.

– Educational: By providing instructions so that the parents can explain the use of the toy to the child in simple terms.

– Creative: To help the child develop their imagination, you must be able to use the toy in alternate ways by creating new games, and play with it.

– Cost: It should be another factor that should be considered since similar toys may have a major cost difference.

– Play Value: So that the toys are long lasting and the child enjoys playing with it for as long as possible, each time giving the child newer developmental skills and encouraging the child to play again and again with newer insights into the way things work.

– Quality vs. Quantity: Too many toys could overwhelm the child and hamper the child’s creative development, as the child may not be able to concentrate on a single toy for long enough, hence rendering the toys useless. The whole purpose of giving the child a toy is to develop the creative thinking and skills and not give the idea that more toys mean more happiness.

Following the above guidelines would ensure the promotion of the purpose of learning through play by helping your child’s developmental skills to improve with time no matter what age your child is.

Many parents allow their children to watch way too much television and its a shame. Mostly they allow this so they can get a break or just for some time to relax. Currently, there are several educational television programs that challenge our kids minds. Although, most kids are unaware these programs even exist. The garbage that is aired these days is very inappropriate and has no educational values whatsoever. The only thing they pick up is bad language and terrible behavior. There are many other ways we can stimulate our children’s minds that does not include television.

The first thought that comes to mind for me is a good educational toy that will provide a positive foundation for acquiring knowledge. Plus, They actually enjoy playing with the toys because they are fun and entertaining. So, it’s not a struggle to keep them interested, they are quite amused by the products. A toddler’s brain consumes so much information at a young age and they are able to retain a great deal of information. I just want to make sure they are retaining the proper information, so they can be prepared for their academic challenges in the future.

Stimulating your children’s minds in a positive, creative environment is essential for early brain development and growth. By making an effort now while they are young, will help them navigate through life’s challenges much more adequately. I believe the best approach to get their complete attention is to discover who their favorite cartoon characters is and exploit it. For example, my son adores “Thomas the train” and it just so happens that there are many great computer learning games on the Internet that keeps him interested.

They have reading, writing, art, and even mind games like puzzles and solving mazes. All of these educational tools are a great method to tune my son’s educational skills. He began yearning for more knowledge at a very young age and that is a wonderful quality to instill in him. I actually taught him the alphabet with some of the games featured on this program and it made a big difference.

These programs are there for us as parents to use and take advantage of since we have the technology in our grasps. I know with long-work schedules parents get overwhelmed easily and it makes it difficult to create time. However, just remember this we only live once and you never get back the time you spend with your kids at that young age. These are the memories you will cherish when your children grow up to become a great success. You have the power to mold a terrific mind and provide them with the correct skills they need to succeed in today’s society.

In conclusion, if parents can spend just ten minutes a day with their kids with just one of these methods, it will make a big difference. I noticed within a few weeks the transformation it made for my son and I implore you try it with your own children. Like I said before, life passes us by very quickly and if we don’t stop to take a look sometimes, you will miss the best moments.

Educational Toys That Encourage Learning

Article by Low Jeremy

There are many kinds of children’s educational toys, each specializing in a certain subject matter (like Math or Science) and working according to a particular age group. Because of the growing demand for educational toys, toy manufacturers have taken great effort and time to come up with new innovations almost every month.

Before, finding the right educational toy was so easy, because there were so few of them. Now, choosing which one to get for your child is similar to the experience of a kid lost in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

Perhaps the most popular of children’s educational toys are those that deal with science. Children that hope to become chemists, geologists and doctors someday can now get themselves toy kits that simulate the experience. Future astronomers can get to practice their “profession” with telescope kits. Future vets are able to learn more about animals and how to care for them with animal kits.

There is a wide range of play sets and devices to tickle a child’s hunger for exploration and discovery, which include the likes of microscopes, dioramas, binoculars, chemisty sets, insect and bug habitats, robotic sets, electronic devices, and others.

Whenever we say the term “educational” and partner it with “toys”, it almost always has this boring ring to it. Without adequate knowledge about the value of educational toys, a lot of us would think that these products are just a waste of money because kids won’t be able to appreciate them, and say it’s for nerds.

This is where we are wrong. Educational toys foster learning AND cater to a child’s creativity. These toys are so well designed and carefully developed that they insert “learning” into the picture without the child realizing that he or she is actually “studying”. This doesn’t mean, though, that educational toys are out to dupe kids into studying. It simply means that toys do not only stimulate kids’ senses and motor skills, but also have the capacity to feed their intellects.

With the birth of educational toys, learning has transformed into an activity that is fun, and not just confined to the four corners of a classroom. Schools have started to incorporate educational toys to their teaching methods, especially to preschoolers, because of this.

With educational toys, not only children, but also parents, are changing their minds about the importance of toys as educational tools. Sure, they may come with a hefty price tag, but the expense is all worth it. Besides, the growing demand for them will surely bring their rates down in a few years. Before we know it, educational toys will be accessible to everyone.
