Not everyone has the necessary talents and desire to be a school teacher, either at primary school level or at high school. Schools, more than any large organisation, need to be well organised. That means employing administrative staff who are capable of keeping the wheels running and that every aspect of management within the school system is being taken care of. That is the reason why many people who are drawn to the world of teaching choose to take on school admin jobs.

They usually have one of three motives (and sometimes all of them combined)

• To be in and around a school system so that they can get the feel for it before embarking on a teacher training course.• To take a break from teaching for a while yet remains with the educational system. Who will understand school admin jobs better then a teacher?• To be involved in the fast paced environment that working at the administration level in education.• To take advantage of the longer holidays that the education system historically provides, especially in the summer.

Finding school administrative jobs shouldn’t be too difficult and there are no qualifications required. The demands of being an administrator within the school system can be very multi-faceted with the size of the school and the number is its pupils determining exactly how many roles the school administrator will be called upon to handle.

In smaller high schools and especially primary schools School Admin Jobs will require much more all round skills.

These might well include:• Dealing with the preparation of study schedules and liaising with teachers to make sure that they are carried through.• Dealing with suppliers of equipment, from paper clips to generators.• Dealing with property maintenance upkeep.• Dealing with local authorities and state departments in matters of education.• Dealing with the preparation of budgets.• Dealing with collecting accounts from parents • Dealing with reconciling accounts from suppliers as well as paying them.• Dealing with a thousand and one other details.

Obviously the larger the school, then all of this wide range of responsibilities will be handled by one or more people, perhaps one person per category.

While teachers deal with the front line, people who handle the School admin jobs can be described as the back office. Their role is to make sure that the wheels of efficiency are well oiled and nothing can affect the overall function of the school: and that is to teach.
